JEE Advanced 2026 Paper Analysis: Section-wise Difficulty, Expected Cut-off & Preparation Strategy

The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2026 was conducted by IIT Roorkee on May 17, 2026, across 221 examination centres in India and two international centres. Over 1.5 lakh candidates appeared for this prestigious test, competing for seats in the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).

This year’s exam was rated moderately difficult overall, with Paper 1 considered more challenging than Paper 2. Physics emerged as the toughest section, requiring deep conceptual understanding and multi-step reasoning. Chemistry was rated moderate, with Organic Chemistry proving more accessible than Inorganic. Mathematics continued to test analytical depth, particularly in Calculus and Coordinate Geometry.

Coaching institutes from Delhi, Kota, and Hyderabad have released unofficial answer keys. The expected General category cut-off is projected between 90 and 105 marks, though the official cut-off will be released alongside the answer key on May 25, 2026. Students may challenge the official answer key within the objection window before final results are declared in June 2026.

JoSAA counselling for IIT seat allocation will begin after results, where candidates can choose branches based on their ranks and preferences.

For students preparing for JEE 2027, studying this year’s paper pattern is extremely valuable. Focus areas should include multi-concept Physics problems, reaction mechanism-based Chemistry, and application-based Mathematics. Regular mock tests simulating actual exam conditions are essential to build speed and accuracy.
